Prescriptions

What is a repeat prescription?

Repeat prescriptions are issued for certain medications prescribed for ongoing conditions. If your doctor puts you on a repeat prescription, this means that you can obtain your medication from the pharmacy without having to speak to the surgery or GP every time you order your medication.

How to order a repeat prescription:

  • Using the System Online service –  click here to access our online system.
  • Using your NHS account – through the NHS website or in the NHS app
  • By repeat slip – Needs to be delivered and collected from surgery.
  • Via your regular pharmacy – Some pharmacies may offer a repeat prescription service that allows you to request your medication by contacting them directly.

Non-urgent advice: Patient Notice

Whilst paper prescriptions (repeat slips) will continue to be available in special circumstances, almost all prescriptions will be processed electronically.

Paper prescriptions can be collected from the practice (please allow 24 hours to process) or posted to you if you provide a stamped addressed envelope.

Electronic prescriptions will be sent directly to your nominated pharmacy within 24 hours from your request.

Please note, if you request items that are NOT on your repeat prescriptions list, the doctor may wish to speak with you. This may delay the processing of your repeat prescriptions request.

HRT Pre-Payment Certificate

The HRT PPC will be available to buy in one single payment online at www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/hrt-ppc, or in-person at some pharmacies. You can call 0300 330 2089 for help and support.

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

Please allow two full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.

Prescription charges

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

What to do with old medicines

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
